Covid May be Here But Christmas is Coming!
Written by Lydia
Wednesday, 30 September 2020 11:56

"Christmas is coming!"

I wonder what that brings to mind for you? Snowflakes? Trees? Presents? Food? Family? Carols?

Hopefully there is a baby in a feeding trough somewhere in there too!

I think we all know Christmas is going to be very different for us all this year. Some may be missing loved ones for very many reasons. We may not be able to get together with all the family, Or even some.

Personally I think this gives even more reason to remind ourselves and those we care about of the amazing gift of Christmas! Not the presents wrapped up with bows or the delicious food, But the tiny helpless baby who came from the presence of God, who has seen the face of God, who is God! Wrapped in cloth lying in a feeding trough in Bethlehem more than 2000 years ago. That same baby growing up and taking the sin of the whole world upon himself, because he was man and is at the same time God in flesh! No one else could or would do.

Now I know it "probably wasn't 25th December" when he was born, and I know "there is too much secularisation",  but the point is even those who don't know Him personally have some kind of inkling about this time of year. All those centuries of carol services, nativity plays etc have left some kind of imprint. This year I'm planning to get to grips with my Christmas cards, I want to take this chance to point others toward Christ the best gift ever, the One who stops our loneliness, who forgives our sin, who heals our broken hearts The One who is still God With Us.

Please don't think this is a hard sell campaign. It isn't. I'm not going to show you our Christmas stock right now. Maybe some other time.

God bless.

Understanding The Bible
Written by Lydia
Wednesday, 15 July 2020 11:57

This week we thought we'd show you some helps to go alongside your Bible reading. I've picked one for the children and one for adults.

Pictured here are 'The Barbour Bible Reference Companion' by George W Knight and Rayburn W Ray, published by Barbour. And for the children 'Look Inside Bible Times' by Lois Rock and Anthony Lewis, published by Lion.

The Bible Barbour Bible Reference Companion has an A-Z section to help you find out about anything from Aaron to Zuzim, notes on Bible customs and curiosities written in a book by book format and a beautiful full colour map section to help you understand where things in the Bible text are happening. Priced at £15.99

Look inside Bible Times is a Lift the Flap Discovery book for children. This takes a child through Abraham in Canaan, the people of Israel in Egypt, Moses and the Tabernacle, the promised land, a Kingdom and a city, the Assyrian attack, Babylon, and Jerusalem in the time of Jesus. (a second book takes you through the time of Jesus) Helpfully gives a look into what life was like throughout Bible times for the people living then. Simple explanations of words and colourful illustrations means children (and probably adults reading with them!) are learning without noticing. Priced at £9.99

If you are interested in either of these or any other Bible helps please pop into the shop Monday-Saturday 10am-1pm or give us a call on 01934 418109 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Featured - Bible of the Week
Written by Lydia
Monday, 06 July 2020 11:54

We would like to introduce you to the New Living Translation (NLT) New Believers Bible this week. We think this looks a great gift for, funnily enough, a new believer! Pictured here the hard back with dust jacket priced £23.99 and New Testament paperback priced £6.50.

Inside alongside the easy language of the New Living Translation there are helpful sections; 'Cornerstones' covering the basics of the Christian faith, 'Fist Steps' to help you know God and his plan for life, 'Off and Running' helps apply the Bible to your life, and 'Big Questions' tackling difficult issues a new believer needs to deal with. There are also hints on how to study the Bible, a one year reading plan, a list of well known Bible stories and where to find them, memory verses, prophesies about Jesus, a glossary of Christian terms and a topical index and even space to make notes at the back. I think this would be a great gift for a new believer of any age.

If you would like to see it for yourself we're open every day except Sundays and Bank Holidays 10am-1pm

If you are still wary of going out shopping we are also available by phone: 01934 418109 and email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to take your orders and post items out to you.

For now Life Living Room must remain closed so we are unable to gather together for the Bible reading but please go to Life - The Living Room Facebook page or Andrew Williams The Bible Talks on You Tube to hear The Bible Talks
